There are the differences of Format on the TOEFL test depending
on the type of the TOEFL test you take. Generally, there are three types of
TOEFL test you should know and they have differences in sections of the test. The differences of each section on TOEFL test

The Types of TOEFL test.
1. PBT (The paper-based TOEFL)
The first type of TOEFL has been introduced in 1983
(according to Barron’s TOEFL 11TH Edition). The PBT is paper andpencil test offered for two purposes.
One purpose is for placement and progress-evaluations. TOEFL PBT is used
in schools or intuitions to test the English skill of the students. The test
which is administrated by schools or intuitions is also called ITP (Intuition
testing program). Normally, the section tested is the same as PBT TOEFL. The
other purpose of PBT test is to supplement the official Computer-Based TOEFL in
certain areas if the CBT test is not available. The PBT itself has three
sections. They are Listening skill, Structure & Written Expression, and
Reading Comprehension. The total score
of PBT test is scaled of 310-677.
2. CBT (Computer-Based TOEFL)
The CBT format is a test using computer media in which the
computer has been installed the software test to be used in CBT test format.
For area where the CBT test is not offered can take the previous Format test
that is PBT. PBT may be quite often used in several countries in which CBT is
not available. The questions given on PBT and CBT are almost the same, but the
method to answer is different. The PBT, the answer choice is assigned a letter.
On CBT, the answer choices are not lettered, just simply click with the mouse
on the correct answer choice. The total scores on CBT Model are 600 scores
besides the PBT is 677. According to Wikipedia.org, the TOEFL CBT has been discontinued
because of several reasons. It has not been used anymore since 2006.
3. IBT ( Internet-Based TOEFL
The IBT TOEFL was first introduced in 2005 and became the new generation of The TOEFL test. Since the CBT
test was not used anymore, PBT and IBT have become the common test which is
held in any country.
The skills tested on IBT model have four sections; Listening, Reading, Writing, and Speaking. On IBT model, we will not find the structure and written expression because it has been changed into speaking section. so, it is quite a complete test to measure the skills of students who want to register in American Universities. The TOEFL IBT scores are between 0 to 120 points while PBT is 310 to 677.
